Losing a tooth to dental trauma or untreated tooth decay can do more than limit your ability to bite into and chew food. It might significantly alter the appearance of your smile, affect your speech, or hamper your self-image. In time, the structural loss of the tooth can cause the nearby teeth to gradually alter their positions, increasing your chances of suffering a dental fracture.

To effectively restore the tooth’s presence and function in your mouth, Dr. Brent Huckabay might recommend installing a dental bridge. This is one single piece of dental work that represents three teeth. The dental crowns on each end will eventually be cemented onto abutments that are formed from the two closest teeth.

To form the two abutments, Dr. Brent Huckabay will remove the tooth enamel from the two closest teeth. This leaves behind pillars of healthy dentin that surrounds the pulps and roots of the teeth. They will then cast a detailed impression of the abutments and your personal bite pattern. This will be sent to our dental lab where your new bridge will be made.

A temporary crown will then be cemented over each abutment to keep it safe while the dental lab technician works on creating your new bridge.

A member of our team will call you to schedule the second appointment when your bridge is ready. The temporary crowns will be removed and your new bridge will be cemented onto the abutments with a dental-grade adhesive.
